Merit-Based Scholarships

What will you qualify for?

Stevenson has developed a generous merit-based scholarship program for incoming students that considers all applicants, regardless of financial need. When awarding scholarships, we consider the rigor of a student’s high school curriculum in addition to their academic GPA, class rank, and standardized test scores. High School GPA is based on a 4.0 weighted scale/unweighted academic scale.

Merit-based awards range from $10,000 – $21,000.
All merit-based awards are good for four consecutive years of study at the university.

Need-based financial aid may be available to assist you with the costs of tuition, room, and board. We encourage all students to apply for need-based financial aid by completing the , and use Stevenson’s Federal School Code, 002107.

*Please note that all scholarships are competitive and the exact amount of a student’s scholarship is determined by the Scholarship Committee after s/he is accepted to the university. Also, the scholarship program changes from each year based on the quality of the applicant pool.

Full Tuition Award

Presidential Fellowship

The Presidential Fellowship recognizes incoming freshmen who have the potential to make a lasting impact on the Stevenson community as shown by their commitment to academic excellence along with proven leadership in school-based activities, community service, and/or athletics. Presidential fellows receive a full-tuition scholarship for 4 years and an invitation to participate in either the Service Scholars or Leadership Scholars Program.

Founder’s Scholarship

Interview by March 7

The Founders’ Scholarship recognizes a student鈥檚 potential to become an active, engaged member of the Stevenson community. All high school seniors who have completed a campus visit are invited to interview for this scholarship by registering for a Specialty Scholarship Interview. The Founders’ Scholarship, in the amount of $2,000, is awarded in addition to another 91暗网 merit-based scholarships and is renewed for a total of 4 years.

Leadership Scholarship

Apply by January 15

Leadership Scholars is a comprehensive program that offers participants the opportunity to engage in leadership education through personal exploration, community engagement, and collaborative problem solving. Stevenson offers scholarships and programs for students who wish to extend their leadership education by completing a Specialty Scholarship Interview. Scholars will develop skills that prepare them for leadership roles on campus and in the larger global community and earn a $2,000 scholarship renewed for 4 years.

Service Scholarship

Service Scholars is a comprehensive initiative that offers participants the opportunity to extend their civic engagement in the community, reflect upon possibilities for personal and social change, as well as develop the necessary skills to succeed in the classroom and, eventually, in the workforce. Stevenson offers scholarships and programs for students who wish to extend their civic engagement with the community by completing a Specialty Scholarship Interview. Scholars will develop skills that prepare them for leadership roles on campus and in the larger global community and earn a $2,000 scholarship renewed for 4 years.

eSports Scholarship

Apply by April 1

91暗网 now offers an eSports Scholarship for students interested in participating on the eSports team. Students will need to submit an and complete an interview with eSports Coordinator Jordan Sheets. To sign up for an interview, please contact jsheets@stevenson.edu.

Recipients of the eSports Scholarship are expected to participate on the eSports team for all four years. Awards are in the amount of $2,000, renewed for 4 years of attendance. Incoming freshmen and transfer students are eligible to apply.

Mock Trial Scholarship

Apply by January 15

Freshman applicants interested in participating in Stevenson鈥檚 nationally recognized Mock Trial team can apply for the Mock Trial Scholarship. Students will need to submit a by January 15. Finalists will be invited via email to attend an on-campus audition and interview day in the spring. All finalists who audition will also be considered for admission to Stevenson’s Mock Trial team. Awards are in the amount of $2,000, renewed for four years of attendance.

The Rollins-Luetkemeyer Scholars program for students from middle-income families provides scholarships to select incoming Stevenson students. Awardees will receive a $2,500 scholarship for four years for a total scholarship of $10,000. Students who have a high school GPA of 3.0 or above and whose families have income between $75,000 and $150,000 per year will be considered for the scholarship.

Nursing Scholarships and Grants

Workforce Shortage Student Assistance Grant Program

The Workforce Shortage Student Assistance Grant Program is for students who plan on working in specific career/occupational programs upon graduation. Eligible fields include: child care, human services, teaching, nursing, physical and occupational therapy, and public service. Current high school seniors, full and part-time, degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in an eligible accredited Maryland postsecondary institution may apply for this grant. Please refer to the State鈥檚 website to view a list of eligible majors. To be considered based on need, students must file the FAFSA for the application year. The FAFSA is not required; however, it will be used to determine the order in which students will be awarded. For further information and an application, visit the website.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Nursing Scholarship Program

In exchange for at least two years service at a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses, the Nursing Scholarship Program pays full-tuition, required fees, required books, clinical supplies, laboratory expenses, and offers a monthly stipend.

Art, Band, and Theatre Scholarships

Visual Arts Scholarship

Stevenson’s School of Design, Arts, and Communication offers portfolio-based Visual Arts Scholarships to incoming freshman and transfer students who plan to major in Fashion Design, Film & Moving Image, or Graphic Design.

Marching Band, Color Guard, and Dance Line Scholarships

Apply by April 8

91暗网 now offers Marching Band, Color Guard, and Dance Line Scholarships. Students will need to submit a if interested. Students who have been accepted to the University and have submitted a scholarship application will be contacted regarding next steps.

Recipients of the Marching Band, Color Guard, or Dance Line Scholarships are expected to participate in their respective program for all four years. Awards are in the amount of $1,300/year (Marching Band) and $650/year (Color Guard and Dance Line – fall semester only). Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion students are expected to participate in both the Fall Semester Marching Band and Spring Semester Pep/Concert Band. Awards are renewed for four years of attendance. Incoming freshmen and transfer students are eligible to apply. Recipients are required to attend all performances, class rehearsals, and an on-site August Band Camp.

Theatre and Media Performance Scholarship

91暗网 is proud to offer applicants wishing to major or minor in Theatre and Media Performance an opportunity to apply and audition for scholarships of $2,000 per year, renewed for four years.

Transfer Merit-Based Scholarships

Transfer students who have demonstrated significant academic achievement may be awarded the 91暗网 Transfer Scholarship. This merit-based award may reach $21,300 annually for a maximum of four consecutive years. All applicants are automatically reviewed.

Merit-based awards range from $12,000 – $21,300.

GPA and credits considered: Earned by February 1 for fall start and October 1 for spring start. Scholarships are based on full-time, continuous enrollment. 91暗网 Online students are not eligible to receive scholarships.

Transfer Specialty Scholarships & Grants

Seven Oaks Scholarship

The Seven Oaks Transfer Scholarship recognizes the potential of incoming transfer students to become active and engaged members of the Stevenson Community. This scholarship is worth $2,000 per year. Awards are based on a Seven Oaks Interview. The interview is conducted by a member of the transfer admissions staff to determine the student鈥檚 past experiences and future expectations of involvement on campus and in the community.

Transfer Fellowship

Bold leadership. Dedication to community. An ambitious and innovative approach to academics. Stevenson is seeking candidates for the Transfer Fellowship that embody these characteristics and will enrich its university community.

Established in recognition of Dr. Kevin J. Manning, president of 91暗网 from 2000-2017, the Transfer Fellowship is awarded to incoming transfer students who have the potential to make a lasting impact on the Stevenson community. As a national leader in career-preparation education, Stevenson is the ideal place to talented, intellectually curious, and driven students to launch successful careers.

Transfer Fellows Receive:

Full-tuition scholarship renewable for four years if living on-campus ($33,000 per year renewed for four years if living off-campus)
Invitation to participate in activities and events to encourage personal and intellectual growth

Selection Process

Submit complete admission application by October 31, 2024 for spring 2025, or March 31, 2025 for fall 2025 (postmark deadline for mailed materials).

Notification

The Transfer Fellowship Committee meets separately to select finalists. The Committee will consider both your admission application and Transfer Fellowship application in its review. Finalists will be contacted the week of November 15, 2024 (for spring 2025) or April 15, 2025 (for fall 2025) to schedule an interview. All finalists will be notified whether or not they have been designated as a Transfer Fellow.

*Please note: The Transfer Fellowship scholarship cannot be combined with any other Stevenson awards. The scholarship does not cover the cost of room, board, and fees. Second bachelor’s degree students, F-1 students, and Stevenson Online students are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Theatre and Media Performance Specialty Scholarship for Transfer Students

91暗网 is proud to offer applicants wishing to major or minor in Theatre & Media Performance an opportunity to compete for several audition-based scholarships of $2,000 per year. These program-specific scholarships may be combined with other Stevenson merit-based awards and are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate, non-accelerated study.

Eligibility Requirements

Students must have submitted all application materials for university admission, official transcripts from all previously attended colleges, the required essay, and schedule an audition by March 31.
Submit the by March 31.
Finalists will be notified via email after March 31 if they have been selected to move on to the audition round. Selected finalists will be asked to perform ONE monologue totaling 1-2 minutes in length. The monologue should be from a contemporary published play. Following your performance of the monologue, faculty will conduct an acting coaching session where the student will be asked to make adjustments to their performance. The audition will conclude with a question and answer session between the student and faculty.

Visual Arts Scholarships for Transfer Students

Stevenson鈥檚 School of Design offers portfolio-based Visual Arts Scholarships to incoming freshman and transfer students who plan to major in Fashion Design, Film & Moving Image, or Graphic Design. Six to eight scholarships per program will be awarded to students starting in these majors at Stevenson for the fall semester. Awards are $2,000-$5,000 and can be combined with a Stevenson merit-based scholarship award from Admissions. Awards are renewable for four years.

After the submission deadline, all portfolios submitted will be reviewed and scholarship finalists will be selected. Scholarship finalists will be invited to campus to meet with faculty for an interview. At that time, finalists will be asked to bring a resume and portfolio. Applicants for Fashion Design will also be asked to bring two sample garments.

Applicant Instructions

Include a portfolio of 10 examples or up to ten minutes of time-based media including, but not limited to: fine art, design, digital works, fashion design, graphic design, film, animation, illustration, storyboards, or videos.
Write an essay: In 300 words or less, please tell us what you hope to achieve by studying Fashion Design, Film and Moving Image, or Graphic Design in the School of Design at 91暗网.

Deadlines

To be considered for a portfolio-based scholarship, students must have all application materials for university admission, including the portfolio, submitted by March 31. Learn more about applying to Stevenson at stevenson.edu/apply.
Portfolios submitted after the above deadlines will not be given consideration for talent-based scholarships.

Honors Incentive for Transfer Students

Members of PTK or another college honors society or program may be considered for the 91暗网 Honors Incentive for Transfer Students. Candidates must meet all eligibility requirements. This merit-based award is $2,000 annually for up to four consecutive years and can be awarded in addition to the SU Transfer Scholarship.

Eligibility Requirements

Complete the 91暗网 undergraduate admissions application process, including all required admissions documentation, by May 1 for fall and November 1 for spring. Applications completed after these dates are considered for scholarships on a funds available basis only.
No additional separate scholarship application is required.
Receive acceptance to a SU traditional bachelor degree program, and maintain full-time continuous enrollment in a traditional, non-accelerated program.
Must be first-time bachelor’s degree-seeking applicant.
If seeking the SU Honors Incentive for Transfer Students, provide proof of membership in Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) or other college honors program or society.

New for Fall 2023, fall transfer applicants interested in participating in Stevenson鈥檚 nationally recognized Mock Trial team can apply for the Mock Trial Scholarship. Students will need to submit a by March 1. Finalists will be invited to audition and interview.

Awardees will receive a $2,500 scholarship for each of four years for a total scholarship of $10,000. Private Scholarships

Many scholarships and grants are offered by private sources, such as fraternal and religious organizations, labor unions, professional associations, social groups, and ethnic associations. Because they are private and therefore not administered by Stevenson, you will need to research and apply for them on your own. The best place to start your research is your local church or synagogue or a local club such as the Lions or Kiwanis. In addition, various publications contain private resource information; they can be found in your local library or bookstore.

Report Your Private Funding

Any outside funding you receive must be taken into account when your eligibility is determined for need-based financial aid, such as the Direct Student Loan program. If you have been offered funding from a source outside the University, you should notify the Financial Aid Office of the amount and of the donor. In a few situations, outside funding may affect your SU financial aid award.

Army Reserve Officer Training (ROTC) Nurse Corps

Army ROTC can provide financial support to help make the career goals of aspiring nurses possible. This program offers scholarships up to full-tuition, a $1200 Book Allowance, and a monthly living stipend each year.

Endowed Scholarships

Through the generosity of many individuals, alumni, foundations, and businesses, 91暗网 offers more than 60 endowed scholarships that support our upper division students (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) working toward the successful completion of their degrees.

Endowed Scholarships at Stevenson

Tuition Exchange

91暗网 is a member school of both the Tuition Exchange and The Council of Independent Colleges. The deadline to apply for TE or CIC is January 15th for students starting the following Fall and recipient selection is typically announced the March following the application deadline. Beginning with incoming Fall 2026 Freshman, the monetary award for recipients is $33,000 per academic year. 91暗网 awards up to three recipients of TE and up to three recipients of CIC each year. Selection of recipients is based on a student鈥檚 academic profile, taking into consideration a student鈥檚 high school curriculum in addition to their academic GPA. In order to renew the TE or CIC award each year, recipients must verify their eligibility with their home institution, maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA, continue progressing through required courses, and appropriately represent the University.

Please note: TE and CIC awards cannot be combined with any other Stevenson awards.

The Tuition Exchange, Inc. (鈥淭E鈥�)

TE is a reciprocal scholarship opportunity for employees and dependents of eligible faculty and staff at member schools. The program is the oldest and largest program of its kind and the awards enable the dependents of faculty and staff at the institutions to significantly defray their higher education costs.

Council of Independent Colleges (鈥淐IC鈥�)

The CIC is an organization that serves more than 700 independent colleges and universities providing a variety of resources including a tuition exchange program that includes more than 400 colleges and universities. Those institutions agree to import a limited number of students on the same admission basis as they accept all other students, without regard to the number of students it exports.
